About WellSpace Health

Since its inception in 1953, WellSpace Health has served the Sacramento area’s people and families with quality healthcare and supportive services.

Our primary goal has always been to provide a broad spectrum of high-quality medical, dental, and mental health services to underprivileged groups.

Employing great healthcare experts that are fully committed to our purpose allows us to achieve just that.

In California, WellSpace Health is a pioneer in the design and delivery of integrated care that addresses the full person, body, and mind. Patients benefit from a “blanket of care” given with skill and compassion because of our people-first approach to holistic healthcare.

The mission of WellSpace Health

WellSpace Health aims to improve regional health by providing high-quality, all-inclusive care. Not merely attempting to be healthy is the goal here.

Because we think that your zip code is a greater indicator of your health than your genetic code, we require a broad reach. High-quality treatment is more important than just distributing it.

Comprehensive or ‘whole person care is important, not just attention to a single problem.

Primary health care services for individuals of all ages may be found at one of the organization’s many Community Health Centers, which form the organization’s backbone.

Several programs and services are essential to the well-being of our patients and their families that are encircled by those core services.

For instance, our comprehensive Women’s Health program’s specialist perinatal care offers a complete set of services throughout and after pregnancy.

So they may see their pediatrician, dentist, and counselor in addition to receiving basic primary care and other services like well-baby visits and sports physicals.

A lot of people see WellSpace Health as a lot of different things. A medical home for more than 50,000 patients, the Joint Commission’s Accreditation for Ambulatory Care (the nation’s highest quality of care approval rating) was an important goal for us.

Their accreditation for all of our mental health services and their designation as a Patient-Centered Medical Home.

WellSpace Health

Our Family Resource Center provides science-based help in developmentally appropriate parenting for certain people. For others, it is a rehabilitation center, mental health services, hypertension self-management programs, or gestational diabetes classes.

As a result of bringing together several organizations that have served our communities for more than 60 years, WellSpace Health represents the area.

We’re attaining our goal by replacing safety net services with a blanket of care. Because we have a motto along the lines of “making ourselves “more perfect,” you know that we are continually striving to improve.

The History of WellSpace Health

Multiple groups came together to form the regional presence of WellSpace Health. In honor of our founding as The Family Service Agency of Greater Sacramento in 1953, we’ve coined the phrase “complete care since 1953.” (FSA).

As “the general practitioner of social service organizations,” FSA aimed to treat and prevent mental health problems caused by social disintegration. In 2005, The Effort merged with FSA, preserving many of the organization’s core services in the areas of therapy, child abuse prevention, suicide prevention, and crisis hotlines to this day.

“Realistic approach to drug problem” was the goal of The Aquarian effort (later known as The Effort), which opened in 1970 and was a sole charitable recipient of Sacramento’s Eppie’s Great Race, the city’s infamous annual marathon for addicts and their families to raise money for a variety of causes.

For comprehensive prenatal and postpartum treatment, the effort combined with the Birth and Family Health Center in 2006 after several “care transition” initiatives had drawn low-income patients into regular and preventive health care rather than episodic emergency care in the region’s health systems.

Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) certification for The Effort in 2009 solidified its position as a health care provider for the region’s underprivileged.

The effort became WellSpace Health in 2013, which was followed by mergers of Health Care for Women, Professional Health Care for Women, Strategies for Change, and various Nivano Health clinics in 2014.

The organization’s growth and integration were two of its primary aims as a broad-based social service provider: to satisfy the region’s low-income communities’ needs and offer a synergy of care.

Primary care patients in Sacramento, Placer, and Amador counties climbed from 3,000 to 70,000 between 2009 and 2017 in 15 full-time Community Health Centers.

Along with full-scope medical care for all ages, additional health service lines include children’s dentistry, complete women’s health, and postpartum care, and Integrated Behavioral Health practice at the Health Centers, all of which are held together by a complex and well-documented quality assurance infrastructure (with Ambulatory and Behavioral Health accreditations from The Joint Commission as well as Certification as a Patient-Centered Medical Home).

By replacing the safety net with a real blanket of health care, WellSpace Health is reaching its goal of “improving regional health via high-quality, comprehensive care.” We look forward to working with you as we strive to make this blanket even larger and stronger.
