An announcement has been made by Retro Fitness, a gym in Colts Neck, New Jersey, that Andrew Alfano has been named CEO. Retro Fitness CEO Eric Casaburi says Alfano was recruited in mid-May, but the firm announced his employment on July 31.

Alfano formerly worked for Starbucks Coffee Co. as an executive.
The statement said that Alfano would be responsible for the brand’s future development and growth.
According to a press release, Retro Fitness has more than 150 operational or under construction facilities in 15 states and more than 400,000 members.

According to the firm’s March 2017 press release, the company had 155 clubs operating in 2017 and was on track to build 250 clubs by 2019.

When the firm was formed 15 years ago, Casaburi, who still has a substantial stake in the company and serves as its chairman, went on to explore new ideas that he is enthusiastic about because of his “lifelong love of health, fitness and great longevity,” he tells Club Industry.

Previously, Alfano served as president and COO of The Learning Experience, a franchising institution of early education, until joining Retro Fitness in 2013. According to the statement, the company’s center count more than quadrupled, sales surpassed record levels, and plans for European development were in the works during his tenure.

While at Starbucks, Alfano was responsible for more than $3.5 billion in sales in the company’s largest regions. In high-profile locations like Chicago, Boston, and New York, the worldwide coffee brand witnessed record growth and sales under his leadership. In addition, he was a part of the group responsible for steering the American branch of the corporation out of its slump in 2008.

Retro Fitness isn’t the only company to hire a former Starbucks boss when it comes to filling its senior ranks. As of June 2017, Mike Rogers has been recruited as the company’s Chief Operating Officer.

As director of Starbucks’ franchise/license store operations, Rogers has been with the company for more than a decade. It was only a matter of time until Rogers departed Retro Fitness for a job at Scooter’s Coffee, where he served as COO until October 2017.

Alfano said in a press release that he loves to establish brands. When it comes to a business model, Retro Fitness has everything I look for—a compelling value offer, a large network of franchisees, and a loyal customer base primed for future development and expansion.

Casaburi said he and his wife recently cooperated on a new anti-aging brand, which he plans to launch shortly. Club Industry Podcast host Casaburi discussed his passion for biohacking in February 2019.

It’s important for individuals to understand their blood work and how it affects their performance, since he says, “I believe it’s missed the entire nutrition and recuperation and all these other things that are occurring in our bodies at the biochemical level.”

In my opinion, I believe that the industry has to enter into that area and compete in the sense that they need to be excellent at it, and we aren’t good at it now. Today, no one in the industry is very adept at it. “It’s essential.”

Reminiscing about those days as CEO of Retro Fitness was Casaburi’s favorite part of his current job.

“As you know, Retro Fitness has a particular place in my heart,” Casaburi remarked. Because of the excellent relationships with so many wonderful franchisees and suppliers, those years in Retro will always hold a special place in my heart.

As a safety precaution, vintage fitness instructors will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), but members shouldn’t count on seeing everyone in the gym using it.

Those who have had any of the covid-19 symptoms in the period designated contagious by the CDC will be barred from attending retro fitness clubs.

Class intervals will be set at 30 minutes to provide adequate ventilation and cleaning of the facility. When courses are over, the students will disperse more equitably around the building. To achieve the six-foot social distancing regulation, group sessions will have fewer participants.

There will be no physical barriers, such as clear plastic shields or any barrier that will prevent the dispersion of droplets in retro fitness clubs.

Also, members will have the option of using regular soap and water or re-usable hand sanitizers for handwashing. Additionally, pre-and post-use wipedowns will be given in disposable wipes.
