Parsley Health story

As a result of Dr. Robin Berzin’s expertise in digital health and functional medicine and his experience as a Columbia-trained physician, he created Parsley Health in 2016.

To a healthcare system that has become reactive rather than proactive, she has assembled a team of world-class physicians and health coaches under the guidance of Parsley.

Anyone, everywhere, may benefit from Parsley’s combination of contemporary medicine and cutting-edge technology.

How Parsley Health went from trendy clinics to a nationwide telemedicine platform.

For more than a decade before Covid-19, Dr. Robin Berzin worked at a natural medicine firm called Parsley Health.

Dr. Berzin, a Brooklyn-based mother of two, argues that “there’s a major vacuum in the healthcare system where it’s overly focused on acute care or addressing what patients are ill with today.”

There is a lack of emphasis on fundamental preventive treatment and the reversal of chronic illness among most primary care practitioners.” Sadly, even at the best medical schools in the country, most people aren’t taught to think this way.” She’s raised $36 million so far for the company.”

According to the CDC, sixty percent of individuals in the United States suffer from at least one chronic illness (ranging from heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, to eczema, colitis, and hormonal imbalances).

About $3.1 trillion in health expenditures and 90% of yearly healthcare expenses in the United States are attributed to chronic illness.

Berzin explains, “The majority of the time, these are lifestyle-related illnesses that are avoidable and reversible.” “At Parsley, we’ve always taken a holistic approach to manage chronic diseases, looking at a patient’s sleep, exercise, diet, and mental health to determine health optimal.”

As part of his mission to reimagine what a doctor’s office might be like, Berzin set out to redesign it. We wanted to reinterpret it,” she adds. “They don’t have to be these cold, antiseptic spaces,” she continues.

Natural light, plants, and other natural components replace the traditional drab waiting rooms at Parsley Health sites in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.

There are many similarities between Parsley’s lobbies and entrances and those of a boutique Hoxton hotel or day spa.

Her cutting-edge platform was more than just a gimmick for the fashion-forward press and members who flocked to the clinics’ custom-designed décor.

Since long before Covid-19, we’ve been putting a lot of money into our flagship facilities and telemedicine, adds Berzin.

She began in January 2020 by implementing telemedicine in ten different states. There is a gap in the healthcare system that has to be filled.

It’s time to find a better method to manage the chronic healthcare issues with preventative care—telehealth is a terrific way to accomplish it at scale,” she says.

Telemedicine is expected to account for less than one percent of all medical visits in 2020, according to research from the Commonwealth Fund. By April, the national percentage had risen to 14%.

However, the creator faced further difficulties in the months that followed. As the epidemic made its way to the United States in February, she became a mother for the second time.

By March, she swiftly shifted Parsley Health from an in-person health care organization to a full-blown telehealth platform. “As creator and CEO, it was a worrisome moment since the progress we saw in our brick-and-mortar vanished suddenly.”

Aside from overseeing Parsley’s team, she had to care for two young children under the age of four on her own while that team was treating a sickness that hadn’t existed three months before.

Despite this, she kept up her virtual visits. Parsley’s telemedicine now covers thirty-five states, and complete and part-time board-certified doctors and customer service coordinators make up most of her staff.

Over the last several months, the rapid development of Parsley Health has taken the company to more than 47 states across the US, and its membership has expanded by more than 20 times since February.

In 2020, Berzin claims, revenues will rise from $10 million in 2019 to the “tens of millions,” but she won’t specify exactly how much.

Dr. Berzin co-founded the physician communication tool Cureatr before starting Parsley Health. The mother-of-three graduated from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and finished her residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

As Parsley continues to expand its virtual healthcare services throughout the country, the company continues to fine-tune its approach to healthcare, from rewriting the intake terminology for the clinical teams to accounting for LGBTQ+ and patients of color.

She is confident that this thinking will enable Parsley to remain relevant in an increasingly crowded industry. There is no such thing as “telehealth” as a product.

Berzin points out that “just because a doctor is online doesn’t mean they’re a better one.” “It all boils down to the level of care you’re providing,” says the author.
