Surgical Abortion Facts

What is the surgical procedure like?

Aspiration is used to carry out the process, which is relatively straightforward (suction). D&C (Dilation and Curettage) is a technique that takes around 2 to 5 minutes and is referred to as a D&C.

After 13 weeks of pregnancy, you will be given a pure substance to dilate your uterus, which is mainly designed for this purpose.

On the second day, you’ll come back for the actual procedure. D&E is the name given to this technique (Dilation and Extraction).

In rare circumstances, a patient may need two consecutive days of dilatation and will return for the procedure on the third day.

Depending on how many days you need to be dilated, you should expect to be at the clinic for around 2 hours.

Has a doctor been hired to carry out the procedure?

Yes. Pregnancy termination is the exclusive specialty of all of our physicians, who are duly licensed medical practitioners in California.

What is the success rate of an abortion performed under anesthesia?

The vast majority of the time, surgical abortion is absolutely safe and successful. Unusual bleeding or residual tissue may need respiration in a small proportion of patients.

After the procedure, how will I feel?

Cramping is a common symptom among sufferers.

When over-the-counter pain relievers like Extra Strength Tylenol or Advil fail to alleviate the patient’s cramping, we direct them to contact our after-hours emergency hotline. Showers and tub baths are permitted after surgery.

Dump, use tampons and engage in sexual activity for two weeks. Avoid aspirin-containing goods since aspirin may cause bleeding.

Is it painful?

If you choose general anesthesia, you won’t feel a thing, which means you won’t remember anything about the procedure.

You may suffer mild to severe cramping after the operation, and Extra Strength Tylenol, Aleve, or Motrin is usually sufficient to relieve cramps.

Please contact us immediately if these methods fail to help your cramps.

For how long am I expected to remain in a state of sedation?

Pregnant women will be put to sleep for between five and ten minutes, depending on when the treatment is carried out.

A general anesthetic scares me to death. Is it possible to achieve this?

Safe, effective, and short-acting drugs are available from our facility. You will be unconscious for 5-10 minutes, depending on the process.

Regardless matter the procedure, there is always a degree of danger. There are seldom severe problems with general anesthesia in our hospitals.

When a patient eats or drinks anything within 8 hours following surgery, issues are more likely to arise.

Any previous anesthetic difficulties or food or drink consumed during the preceding eight hours should be disclosed to your counselor.

Most of our patients return to work or school the next day after their procedure. After surgery, your counselor and medical team will go through what to do and what not to do.
