Equitas Health: How to Find Rewarding Career Opportunities

Equitas Health

The nonprofit Equitas Health system has been serving the surrounding area since its founding in 1984.

It’s one of the biggest LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS service providers in the United States, and it’s a nationally certified Community Health Center.

Every year, Equitas Health helps tens of thousands of people in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia by providing primary and specialty medical care, pharmacy, dentistry, mental health and recovery, HIV/STI treatment and prevention, PrEP/PEP, Ryan White/HIV case management, care navigation, advocacy, and other community health initiatives from its 21 locations in 13 cities across the three states.

The Equitas Health Pharmacy is a vital component of the clinic’s overall care and business operations, with all proceeds going back into patient care and other services offered by the clinic. Ohio and Texas customers are served through Equitas Health pharmacies.

Equitas Health has many branches, including the Equitas Health Institute and the Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization (BRAVO).

Our Vision

High-quality medical treatment and preventive services are available to those in the LGBTQ community, those living with HIV/AIDS, and others who face medical inequities.

Our goal is to serve as the first point of contact for those in the LGBTQ+ community, those at risk for or living with HIV, and those looking for a safe and accepting medical home.

Our Principles

SENSE OF CULTURAL HUMBLENESS

We understand the unique needs of the LGBTQ community and other people trying to find a safe and accepting place to get medical treatment.

INTEGRATED HEALTH CARE

Because of our extensive resources and staff, we are able to meet the medical, social, and behavioral health care requirements of our patients in their entirety.

INCLUSIVE

Our programs have expanded to meet the needs of the whole community, not only those who are vulnerable or living with HIV/AIDS.

BENEVOLENCE AND RESPECT

All patients are welcome in our caring and secure facility.

EMPHASIS ON RELATIONSHIPS

We enable our clinicians to spend more time with patients. This enables them to develop their listening skills, get to know the patient, and acquire the knowledge necessary to provide care that is oriented toward the needs of the individual.

INNOVATIVE PATHFINDER

If we are to address the complex healthcare demands of our community, we must remain at the front of ever-developing methods of diagnosis, treatment, and technology.

NOBILITY OF PURPOSE

We are happy to be working toward the worthy goals of ending the HIV/AIDS pandemic and improving access to healthcare for the LGBTQ community. We shall always remain at the forefront of the movement for health, wellness, equality, and fairness.

History

When 1984 rolled along, a whole new, terrifying danger was at the door. We responded like humans always have: together and prepared to fight.

Little was known about HIV/AIDS at the time. But we saw that our LGBTQ family and friends were becoming ill and dying, and we saw that our fight lacked the resources it needed.

So we did what we could to help the ill by gathering in living rooms and around kitchen tables. Soon, people all around the state were becoming involved in this movement that had started in their own communities. A glimmer of optimism began to shine.

Our new name reflects our expanded commitment to improving health care for everybody.

We have not broken our bond with one another. Even more formidable as a group than ever before.

We have left behind the AIDS Resource Center Ohio, the AIDS Foundation of Dayton, the Dayton Area AIDS Task Force, the AIDS Foundation of Miami Valley, the Columbus AIDS Task Force, Metropolitan Residential Services, David’s House of Compassion, the Ohio AIDS Coalition, and BRAVO.
