With a burgeoning population, Chester, Pennsylvania, needed a hospital, and in 1893 they opened the doors of the 48-bed Chester Hospital.
It wasn’t until ten years later that Upland, Pennsylvania’s J. Lewis Crozer Homeopathic Hospital opened its doors.
In 1963, Crozer Hospital amalgamated with Chester Hospital to become the Crozer-Chester Medical Center, formerly known as Crozer Hospital, and the J. Lewis Crozer Homeopathic Hospital.
In 1925, the Delaware County Hospital was formed, and the construction of a new hospital began in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
Its opening day, July 1, 1927, included 56 guestrooms and 11 cribs. In 1959, it was decided to change the facility’s name to Delaware County Memorial Hospital.
To accommodate its growing patient population, the Crozer-Chester Medical Center acquired the adjacent Crozer Theological Seminary site in 1970.
When not serving as an Army hospital during the American Civil War or as a component of the Pennsylvania Military Academy, this building has served as a Normal School, which textile magnate John Price Crozer commissioned.
From its founding in 1869 until its closure in 1970, Crozer Theological Seminary educated future Baptist ministers for the American Baptist Church.
From 1948 until his graduation in 1951, Martin Luther King, Jr. studied at the institution and earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree. Because of a merger in 1970, the institution is now known as Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
Crozer-Keystone Health System, formed through the 1990 merger of Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Delaware County Memorial Hospital, is the primary healthcare provider in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
Springfield Hospital (founded in 1960) became part of the network in the second half of that year.
After purchasing Sacred Heart Medical Center (founded in 1983) in Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1992, the health network changed the name of the facility to Community Hospital.
Finally, in 1997, Taylor Hospital (founded in 1910) became a part of the Crozer-Keystone Health System.
Crozer-Keystone Health System became a part of Noble Health Alliance in the previous November. July 2013 saw the formation of the cooperation between Abington Memorial Hospital, Aria Health, and Einstein Healthcare Network.
This program’s goal was to get the four hospitals working together better to serve the Philadelphia area and its surrounding suburbs.
The Noble Health Alliance board of directors decided to end operations in April 2016.
Crozer-Keystone and Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. signed a final agreement to merge in January 2016.
Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. finalized its purchase of Crozer-Keystone Health System on July 1, 2016, after gaining all required regulatory clearance.
Once known as Crozer-Keystone Health System, the organization officially changed its name to Crozer Health in September 2020.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain problems and increased expenses strain the health system’s finances, with government spenders making up 60% of the hospital’s revenue.
Christiana Care Health System stated on February 11, 2022, that it would want to buy Crozer Health from Prospect Medical Holdings, with an agreement likely by June.

Hospitals and facilities
Four hospitals and a system of outpatient clinics make up Crozer Health. A regional burn facility, three regional cancer centers, and a kidney transplant center are all located in these buildings.
Health Care at Crozer-Chester
Upland, Pennsylvania, is home to Crozer-Chester Medical Center (Crozer), a 424-bed tertiary-care teaching hospital situated on a 68-acre site.
More than 19,000 patients per year are admitted to our Level II trauma hospital; 53,000 patients per year are seen in the emergency room, and around 1,700 newborns are born here.
The Global Neuroscience Institute, First Steps Rehab, the Bariatric Surgery Program, the Nathan Speare Regional Burn Treatment Center, and the Kidney Transplant Program are located here.
DMHC (Delaware County Memorial Hospital)
The Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, is a 225-bed institution that provides a wide variety of emergency and specialty care.
More than 1,800 newborns are born, 5,800 procedures are performed, and over 10,000 patients are admitted annually to this hospital.
This is the Springfield Hospital.
Acute treatment and preventative medicine are provided by Springfield Hospital, a 40-bed facility in Springfield, Pennsylvania. There are more than 1,800 yearly admissions, and the hospital sees more than 11,000.
More than 7,000 patients are admitted to Taylor Hospital, a 156-bed facility in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, and more than 28,000 people visit the hospital’s Emergency Department annually.
