With only nine beds when it first opened in November 1908, the original City Hospital served as the seedbed for what is now CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
After World War II, the City Hospital was bought and expanded to fulfill the community’s requirements thanks to a successful fundraising effort and widespread public support.
Named Gaston Memorial Facility in 1946, the hospital underwent a name change. Founded in 1947, Gaston Memorial Hospital’s nursing school produced 307 graduates until it closed in 1973.
The hospital moved to its present location in the same year it needed to expand its space, beds, and other services.
The hospital underwent a major overhaul in 1984. Radiation oncology patients now have access to advanced treatment options because of the 1987 completion of the restructuring.
A four-story wing was added to the hospital a few years later. A Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program accreditation from the American College of Surgeons was awarded to Gaston Memorial Hospital in 1993.
Adding a 52-bed world-class birthing facility with a level III NICU, a three-level patient and visitor parking deck, and an education suite with conference and classrooms were all part of a significant hospital expansion in 2004.
An ER at Mount Holly’s CaroMont Regional Medical Center, which serves eastern Gaston, southern Lincoln, and western Mecklenburg Counties residents, was established in 2015.
CaroMont Health has continued to develop to fulfill our communities’ expanding demands. Over the next five years, we aim to spend more than $300 million on capital projects.
These important initiatives show our steadfast dedication to the thousands of patients who entrust us with their treatment.
To name a few, CaroMont Regional Medical Center-Gaston will have a new critical care tower while also getting new medical office buildings built and renovated, and a new hospital will be made in Belmont called CaroMont Regional Medical Center-Belmont.
More than 50 general and specialty physician offices are part of the CaroMont Health network of affiliate organizations.
CaroMont Health’s current goal is to be the community’s most trusted healthcare provider. CaroMont Health wants to make a significant difference in the lives of the people we serve, and our vision reflects that goal.
