Difficult beginnings

The State Agricultural Laborers Health Service and Migrant Health Act Fund established Ampla Health in 1964 as a medical care initiative for migrant farmworkers.

The Sutter County General Hospital was called the Sutter-Yuba Farm Workers Health Project and operated as a night clinic.

To better serve the Northern Sacramento Valley’s rural population, the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare suggested that the Consumer Advisory Board be turned into a non-profit corporation in spring 1973.

After receiving the Migrant Health Act Funds in 1973-74, this organization provided the same essential health services. Sutter, Yuba, Butte, and Colusa counties were added to the service area once the program received greater money and an Executive Director.

To better represent the company’s dedication to the community, Ampla Health was adopted in June 2011.
